Peargirl Knits |The beautiful edging on this window valance is knit in a lace pattern dating back to the mid-nineteenth century. It can be found in Heirloom Knitting by Sharon Miller. It is recommended for intermediate to advanced knitters with some lace experience. The pattern can be modified to fit any window by modifying the number of stitches cast on for a longer valance, or repeating the pattern for additional width. The valance pictured measures 66 inches wide and 14 inches long, and I am using it on a window that is 44 inches wide. I used a kettle-dyed fingering cotton. Materials: Fingering weight cotton (440 yds/100 gr) – 1.25 skeins Needles: One 24” 3.50 mm (#4 US) circular needle Stitch Marker Tapestry needle for weaving in ends Gauge : 23 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette stitch, although gauge is not crucial.
