Shoalwater Shawl is a triangular garter stitch lace shawl knitting pattern by Evelyn A. Clark for Fiber Trends (S-2011). Old Shale lace ripples across it like waves in shallow water.

The shawl is knit from the top down and finished with an easy picot bind-off. Instructions cover four yarn weights, and you can change the number of repeats for a smaller or larger shawl.

• Finished size: About 40" (102 cm) deep × 80" (203 cm) across in fingering, sport or DK; about 36 × 72" (91 × 183 cm) in lace weight with 4 repeats
• Yarn: Lace 1200 yds; fingering 1400 yds; sport 1150 yds; DK or light worsted 850 yds
• Needles: 29" or 32" (72 or 80 cm) circular plus one larger double-pointed needle for the I-cord edge: lace US 6 and 7; fingering US 7 and 9; sport US 9 and 10½; DK US 10½ and 13. A spare needle about 2 sizes smaller
• Gauge: Lace 19 sts, fingering 18 sts, sport 16 sts, DK 12 sts = 4"
